Gli utenti linux (ma anche win) possono fare la stessa cosa con il miniOCR di avidemux.
strumenti> OCR (vobsub -> str)
selezione file idx
file srt in uscita > salva con nome.
tutto il resto, come qualsiasi programma della specie: istruire il programma per fargli riconoscere da solo i caratteri.
Provato più volte, "ieri" e oggi, funziona molto bene.

Avevo la stessa esigenza e ho scoperto che con Jubler Subtitle Editor è ancora più semplice. Nessun riconoscimento dei caratteri, semplicemente: Open->Save As->*.srt (tra i tanti formati disponibili)

se puoi, aggiungi dettagli:
sistema operativo
file caricato (idx o sub)
io ho provato ma non ha funzionato :/
jubler, con idx ha caricato il normale file di testo con i timestamp.
con il file sub, sembrava che stesse ricodificando (chissà cosa visto che il sub sono solo immagini con il sottotitolo sovraimpresso >_>) ma non ha dato il risultato sperato.

Ho provato con Subrip a passare da .ixd a .srt, ma, dopo il riconoscimento manuale della prima battuta del film, mi esce una finestra in cui mi dice che è impossibile processare il file, e in pratica dovrei scrivere ogni battuta a mano
